- This series of workshops introduces the foundational concepts of angel investing, starting with the motivation to become an angel investor by exploring the broad network of early-stage businesses, the risk/return profile, and the innovative technology landscape, while highlighting how organizations like TiE Global Angels collaborate.
- Participants will learn to navigate the startup ecosystem and source deals effectively, focusing on identifying successful founders and teams, understanding the ecosystem, and building networks to access high-quality investment opportunities.
- The program covers the investment process, including evaluating pitch decks, conducting deep dive calls, and performing due diligence, emphasizing what to look for at each step, the role of individual expertise, and the toughest challenges startups face in the next six months.

Attendees will gain insight into deal structuring and contracts, exploring options like funds, SPVs, direct investments, and the differences between equity, convertible notes, and SAFEs, along with the documentation and funding process.

About your coach
As a life long investor and capital allocator, Dhaval brings a wealth of experience to the Angel Investing Workshop, guiding students through the intricacies of early-stage investing with a proven track record of success. As the Founder and Chairman of the Investors Institute, he has dedicated himself to shaping the next generation of investors through comprehensive training, personalized mentoring, and strategic connections to resources, ensuring they make informed decisions that foster industry-leading companies.
With over 15 years in private equity, asset management, and consulting, primarily in New York City, Dhaval’s career highlights include launching funds at Citigroup that raised over $3 billion and navigating the 2008 financial crisis to facilitate a sale to Apollo Global Management, where he spearheaded private equity funds in commercial real estate. He further honed his expertise by founding an asset management firm managing a $300 million portfolio, showcasing his ability to drive successful investments.
Holding an MBA from Baruch College, City University of New York, and a BS from Post College, Long Island University, Dhaval enriches his teaching with academic rigor. His five-year tenure as a Charter Member of TiE SoCal, where he helped launch the original Angel Fund and has run pitch events for over two years, underscores his hands-on success in building a thriving venture ecosystem, making him an ideal guide for aspiring angel investors.
